Piano and grand piano moving
We move pianos and grand pianos with special equipment and an experienced team — safely over stairs, through narrow corridors and without an elevator. We are responsible for the instrument's mechanism and finish.
Moving a piano or grand piano is not the same as moving furniture: the instrument weighs 200–500 kg, has a delicate mechanism and an easily damaged finish. ELP Baltics uses special straps, dollies and the Zonzini Domino Lift robot (up to 800 kg over stairs), works under contract and with insurance. In Vilnius prices start from €90.
What we do when moving a piano
From survey to placement in the new location — we are responsible for the entire journey of the instrument.
Survey and assessment
We assess instrument type, weight, stairs, turns and elevator options before the job.
Special straps and dollies
We use piano-specific equipment that distributes weight evenly and protects the mechanism.
Lifting over stairs
Up to 800 kg with the Zonzini Domino Lift robot when there is no elevator or it is too small.
Protective packing
We protect the finish and corners with blankets and foam to avoid scratches.
Locking keys and pedals
We lock moving parts so the mechanism is not damaged in transit.
Secured transport
The instrument is strapped inside the van so it does not move on the road.
Placement and levelling
We place it, level it; for grand pianos we reattach the legs and pedal lyre.
Insurance and contract
We work under contract; the instrument is insured throughout the move.
Piano moving step by step
A typical upright piano move in Vilnius takes 1–2 hours; a grand piano needs more time and a larger team.

Piano moving: what's important to know
The most common mistake is trying to move a piano yourself or with a random crew. The instrument is not only heavy but also top-heavy: most of the mass is high up, so it tips over easily on stairs. Without proper straps and dollies you risk both the instrument and the workers' health.
The ELP Baltics team has piano-specific equipment and experience with all types of instruments — from school uprights to concert grands. When the stairwell is narrow or there is no elevator, we use the Zonzini Domino Lift robot, which safely lifts up to 800 kg without lifting "by hand".
Grand and concert instruments
To move a grand piano we remove the legs and pedal lyre, lay the instrument on a special skid board and wrap it in protective blankets. This is a standard but careful procedure performed only by experienced staff.
